(68)Simon Peter answered him, “Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life.
(69) We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.”
You may have noticed the billboard on GA 400 that reads John 6:68. It might even be the reason you are checking out this website! Not long ago, I asked God for a way to show my gratitude for his many blessing in my life. The Holy Spirit moved me to secure the billboard for a message. The process of selecting a message according to His will made me nervous. So, I drew myself close to God in Adoration for his direction. I received a clear answer of John 6:68.This passage reminds many Christians to turn to Christ, to follow his word. For Catholics, this scripture is a deeper reminder of our sacramental union with Christ through the Eucharist. The answer Peter gives to Jesus is in direct response to one of the hardest teachings of Christ.
In the synagogue at Capenaum, Jesus begins to teach that he is the bread of life. In verse 52, Jesus says " the bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh." We read in verse 52 that they had difficulty accepting this teaching. Jesus reiterates four times that eating his flesh gives life. In John 6:66, many of Jesus' disciples turned away from him in response to this teaching. Jesus turns to the twelve and asked if they too were going to leave. In John 6:68 we hear the response offered by Peter.
What answer do we give God when following his ways are challenging or difficult to comprehend?
